— What factors should people consider when buying a gift?
Depending on the situation, many factors should be taken into account. One is the type of occassion. Certain events and celebrations mean different kinds of gift. For instance, a small souvenir, like a key chain or a book, would be inappropriate as a wedding gift. In this case, something useful for a household could be a better option, such as a home appliance (like a blender or cutlery). Also, we need to think about the preferences of a person who this gift is intended for. You could choose a dark-colored wallet, while that person prefers a white one. So, I’d say, it’s always good to keep in mind the appropriacy of a gift.
— Is it easy to choose clothes to give as a gift?
Of course, not! Clothing is one of those items when you need to be fully sure about the color or colors a person likes, also size is extremely important, as well as a design or even a brand. So here, I believe, it takes a lot of knowledge about every single detail that the person likes or dislikes. I mean buying clothes as a gift can only be suitable for family members, but for friends it’s usually not that easy.
— On which occassions do people in your country usually give gifts?
Well, besides typical occassions, such as birthdays or weddings, people often give gifts on graduation days when students complete their studies at school or university. This is one of those milestones when we celebrate certain academic achievements and they are in a way a transition between two different phases in a person’s life. In these situations, gifts can be in the form of fancy dinners at restaurants or expensive devices or, if a family is well-off, even a car or some real estate. But that’s not something that happens often.
— Do you think that in the future typical gifts will be replaced by something different?
It’s tough to say. I think that the nature of gifts is unlikely to change much, but the way people buy them could be different. I mean, it wouldn’t be surprising if in the future we would choose gifts only online and arrange the delivery instead of going to a physical shop. That’s because of the rapid spread of online shopping platforms that’s completely transformed the way we shop today. And actually it seems to me that gift certificates will probably become much more widely bought as gifts because they provide a wider freedom for a gift-receiver. Let’s take, for example, a gift certificate from an airline or a gift certificate in a book store or in a spa resort. This helps us to be on the safe side and not choose a wrong present.
