Тема эссе Writing Task 2 (была на официальных экзаменах IELTS в августе 2017 года):
People in certain countries have more money now and buy more things than before. Do you think it is a positive or negative development? What can be done about it, in your opinion?
План эссе:
Introduction – перефразируем тему и покажем структуру эссе
Essay body 1 – ответим на вопрос Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
Topic sentence: посмотрим позитивную и негативную точку зрения
Examples:
(1) это хорошо — есть свобода выбора вещей; уровень жизни высокий.
(2) это плохо — увеличивается количество отходов и мусора, потому что люди постоянно покупают новое, выбрасывая старое, которое еще можно использовать.
Essay body 2 – ответим на вопрос What can be done about it?
Topic sentence: потребление все же стоит косвенно ограничивать и находить деньгами лучшее применение
Examples:
(1) Излишек денег можно потратить на помощь людям и странам, которые нуждаются.
(2) Стоит задуматься о негативном влиянии потребительства на исчерпаемые ресурсы и экологию и сократить объем персонального мусора.
Conclusion –
У этой проблемы есть двоякое толкование — с одной стороны рост потребления указывает на высокий уровень жизни, а с другой — несет в себе угрозу для планеты. В качестве решения предлагается более разумное расходование денег и ограничение потребления.

Many developed countries have achieved impressive levels of economic advancement which enables their citizens to have more money than before and, consequently, increase their spending on more goods. There is a debate in the society about the positive and negative effects of the so-called consumerism. Both sides of this issue will be examined in this essay, together with my position and some possible recommendations.
Primarily, there are mixed views on consumerism caused by accelerated prosperity. On the one hand, the more money is available for an individual, the more freedom of choice they receive when making a decision about purchasing goods. These aspects clearly signalize about the high standard of living in a society. However, consumerism is often criticized because it triggers the ongoing production and leads to the growing amounts of wastes that ultimately deteriorate the environment. From my perspective, such side effect of money-driven consumption refutes all its advantages.
Taking into account the twofold nature of consumeristic approach, it is essential to control consumption and use money in a more efficient manner. As an example, spending more on charity and helping needy people or even countries is one of socially responsible applications of money. Additionally, it is crucial to raise public awareness about the negative impact that consumerism has on exhaustible resources and pollution scale in the world. Therefore, customers should refrain from discarding goods thoughtlessly and replacing them with new ones.
To conclude, the phenomenon of increased spending and consumption brings obvious advantages, but the drawbacks seem to dominate because consumerism poses a tremendous threat to the environment. The major solution, in my opinion, is seen in wise money management, including charitable spending and limiting purchases because this would demonstrate a responsible attitude toward the nature.
