Довольно сложная тема в Writing Task 2 использовалась в IELTS в некоторых странах мира в июле 2017 года. Влияет ли погоня за богатством в обществе на потерю моральных ценностей? Можно посмотреть плюсы и минусы в этой ситуации. Именно на этом я построил свое эссе.
Эссе ниже я написал за 40 минут — это моя оригинальная работа, а не скопированное из Интернета эссе.
Тема эссе Writing Task 2 (была на официальных экзаменах IELTS в июле 2017 года):
Many countries aim to improve their standard of living through economic development. Sometimes this may bring loss of social values as a result.
Do the advantages of higher standard of living outweigh its disadvantages?
План эссе:
Introduction – перефразируем тему и покажем свое мнение (мое мнение – перевешивают плюсы растущего уровня жизни)
Essay body 1 –
Topic sentence: Минусы экономического развития с точки зрения социальных ценностей:
Examples:
(1) Делая акцент на погоне за богатством, люди могут забывать о семейных ценностях или использовать других людей в своих корыстных целях, потому что они думают только о том, как увеличить богатство.
(2) На уровне страны: такое отношение к жизни может в долгосрочной перспективе разделить общество на богатых и бедных — тех, кто сумел достичь успеха, и тех, у кого этого сделать не получилось.
Essay body 2 –
Topic sentence: Плюсы экономического развития (и это моя позиция):
Examples:
(1) Экономическое развитие в масштабе одного человека — мир движим законами рыночной экономики, а это, в первую очередь, стремление сделать жизнь более изобильной и приятной. Это вполне естественное желание любого человека.
(2) Экономическое развитие в масштабе страны — улучшение благосостояния населения, развитие уровня образования/медицины, что ведет к росту удовлетворенности жизнью.
(3) Касательно социальных ценностей: в богатых обществах люди намного охотнее жертвуют деньги и время на благотворительность, желая помочь тем, кто в менее выгодном социально=экономическом положении.
Conclusion –
Я считаю, что улучшение уровня жизни должно всегда иметь место, потому что плюсов все же больше, хотя иногда это может вести к потере моральных ценностей.
Готовое эссе:
There are opposing opinions as to what influence economic development may have on society. While some people claim that improving living standards could bring negative side effects, such as losing social values, I believe that the advantages of this phenomenon are far more important.
On the one hand, the opponents of economic development assert that social values could be put at risk. It is believed that people pursuing wealth could depreciate family and friendship values as they spend more time outside their social circles and working. Such individuals sometimes may even use other people as instruments in their mercantile interests or violate laws. In terms of a country, this approach could divide the society into extremely rich and poor, leading to disparity and hostility among societal layers.
However, in my opinion, economic development has a far more substantial positive effect at all levels. For each person, it is usually a natural desire to elevate the quality of life, which could be achieved through a satisfying job, access to high-quality public services and living in a socially stable environment. I am convinced that it is through economic development that such conditions are often created. For a country at large, economic progress aims to maintain the well-being of population and to enhance such sectors as education, medicine or public safety. It therefore means that higher living standards tend to result in better life satisfaction. Perhaps, the strongest impact of economic development is that the wealthier people become, the more likely they are to improve the world around them by helping others through charitable work and volunteering.
In conclusion, while striving to increase wealth may not always be in line with moral standards, people still have more chances to improve quality of life both for themselves and others through economic development. Therefore, I believe that a higher standard of living has its prevailing positive sides for every citizen and society at large.
