Model Answer:

The table presents the statistics about the proportion of land covered by forest in four countries within the period between 1990 and 2015. Overall, deforestation is obvious for Australia and Brazil, whilst New Zealand and Chile are expected to increase their shares of forest by 2015.

According to the data, the percentage of forest-covered land in Australia had an insignificant decline from 21.9% in 1990 to 21.3% fifteen years later, and it is predicted that this figure will drop to 20% by 2015. A similar situation is seen in Brazil because its forest indicator notably decreased from just over 62% to 57.2% in 2005, and the rate is likely to have a further 4-percent reduction in 2015.

The reverse pattern is true for New Zealand, whose share of land under forest saw a slight increase from 28.8% in 1990 to 31% in mid-2000s, and it is expected to reach 32.3%. As far as Chile is concerned, its forestation percentage will probably experience a 2-percent rise to 22% at the end of the given period.
